If there’s only one person whose advice you should definitely take for your wedding day makeup – it’s Charlotte Tilbury.

The queen of glow and glamour has been responsible for the bridal makeup of some of the biggest A-list weddings, including Amal Clooney and Kate Moss.

So whether you’re doing your own wedding makeup, or are just after some tips for touch-ups during the day, here’s Charlotte’s ultimate bride guide.

1. Prep with a sheet mask in the morning

I always say you can’t have a beautiful painting without a beautiful canvas. And a good skincare routine is so important, especially in the lead up to your wedding, so that you’ll have the most perfect, dreamy, glowing skin on the day.

My Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask (£18) is perfect to use on the morning of the wedding to prep your complexion before applying makeup! It has a unique biomimetic vector delivery system, feeding the complexion where it needs it most for a more youthful, brighter, hydrated looking finish.

2. Blend your foundation with your fingers

For foundation application and to avoid looking cakey, it’s key to prep the skin first to ensure you have a beautiful canvas to work with.

[After your sheet mask and moisturiser], use a primer. My Wonderglow (£38.50) is my go-to base product to ensure every makeup stays for hours.

When applying foundation, I use just enough to create a really beautiful, glowing finish with subtle (but enough) coverage. Starting from the centre of the face, blend the foundation outwards, only applying where a little extra coverage is needed. I use my fingers a lot because the warmth of your hands helps blend it in properly.

Darlings, I loved getting my gorgeous, GLOWING friend @emmaroberts ready for the Vanity Fair party last night!! ♥️💫 I created a divine, diffused modern red lip, using #LoveLiberty and #RedCarpetRed for a statement veil of colour… On her eyes, I used a molten wash of sparkle, and glossy Hollywood Filtered skin. To complete the look, @elkin styled a sparkling, old Hollywood-inspired dress from @yaninacouture ❤❤. #GetTheLook: 🌟 Instant Dry Sheet Mask, Magic Cream, Hollywood Flawless Filter shade 2, Light Wonder Foundation 3, Magic Away 2 & 4, Filmstar Bronze and Glow, Hollywood Light Wand, Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in 1. 👁 Super Model Brow Lift, Super Model Legendary Brows, Eyes to Mesmerise in Jean, Uptown Girl Luxury Eyeshadow Palette pop shade, The Classic Eyeliner in Audrey, Full Fat Lashes in Mascara. 💄 Love Liberty Matte Revolution Lipstick mixed with Hollywood Lips Screen Siren.

3. Set the t-zone with powder, but leave the cheeks

Once you’ve finished applying [your foundation], use a finely milled powder like my Airbrush Flawless Finish powder (£34) to set the base and stop the foundation looking heavy, powdery or cakey.

This finely milled powder feels like the highest-thread count cashmere against your skin and helps to lock in your makeup effortlessly – it also removes any unwanted shine for the photographs!

Once the bridal makeup look is complete, I apply it with a soft sculpting brush on the t-zone, down the nose, on the chin and across the forehead. I always keep the cheekbones free of powder so that they remain dewy looking and catch the light.

4. Use a brighter blush to avoid looking washed out in photos

Lighting, flash or direct light can be harsh and could make you look washed out, so when applying your makeup, you want to naturally enhance your features.

Add slightly more definition to the face using clever contouring tricks, focusing on the nose, cheekbones and jawline.

Colour can also be flattened in photography light, so opt for a slightly brighter blush [than usual].

5. Use a soft-focus highlighter, sparingly

I am the queen of the GLOW, so for me, your wedding makeup should be as glowing as you’ll be feeling on the day.

My Beauty Light Wand (£29) gives an amazing soft-focused Instagram filter for your skin which looks as amazing in real life as it does in photographs. I apply to the tops of cheekbones, the tip of the nose and the inner corner of the eyes!

6. Use liner for long-lasting lip colour

Your lips will be one of the main areas of focus during the day, from the magical first kiss as husband and wife, to spending time talking to loved ones.

To enhance the longevity of any lipstick for K.I.S.S.I.N.G., I always use my Lip Cheat lip liner (£16) first. The wax and oil-rich formula works beautifully as a stencil, ensuring lip colour lasts.

GLAMOUR top tip: Apply your liner all over your lips (rather than just the outline) to really extend the life of your lip colour. When you apply the lipstick, apply once and then blot with a tissue before applying a second layer.

7. Avoid experimenting on the day

Your wedding day is the time to enhance your natural beauty, you want to feel like the most beautiful, confident, mesmerising version of yourself. You don’t want to look completely different.

My advice to any brides would be to be careful of experimenting with new, bold colours on your wedding day.

Neutral shades like chocolate and copper span all complexion and eye colour combinations, always look effortlessly beautiful, are always in style and suit all complexions.

On my wedding day, I chose to wear my Dolce Vita Luxury Palette (£39). It’s a look I wear most days, as the gorgeous, decadent molten bronzey-golds and rich chocolate shades really make my green eyes POP!

Top 3 items to carry with you on the day

  • Lipstick & lip liner: “Keep it close for any touch-ups after sipping champagne!”
  • Concealer: “For touching up any little makeup smudges from happy tears”
  • Your signature scent: “I always say ‘spray the magic way!’. I start by spraying it on my pulse points – behind the ears, wrists and ankles. I then spray a scent halo around my neck, head and hair. I call it ‘Scent Contouring!’”
